Went from 320 grit wet sanding (they were out of 400) to 600, to 2000, cleaned up with some alcohol, and then three coats of clear coat. It’s orange peeling a bit now, but we’ll see if a little polishing will clean that up tomorrow after it sits for 24 hours. I’m already happy with how it looks as opposed to how it was when I started.

Nobi’s guide to restoring your GTO headlights
1) Mask out the restore area
2) Prep the area with a little bit of water or oil
3) Obtain 200 Glad trash bags and tape them to the whole car.
4) Blast down the turnpike at 90 MPH screaming ‘I’M BATMAAAAAN’ to every motorist you pass
5) When the police arrive, increase your speed to 120 MPH and scream ‘YOU CAN’T CATCH BATMAN, HE TRAINED WITH NINJAS’ to them through a megaphone
6) The police will pit the car. At this moment, the trunk will pop open, covering the highway with bath salts. The police may inadvertantly inhale the bath salts, which you can use to your advantage.
7) Get arrested by police officers not affected by the bath salts. Make the evening news and get commited to your local mental health institution.
8) During repair operations by police auctioneers, the GTO headlights will be restored to stock condition.

Just hit them with a quick 3000 grit wet sand and polish with a buffer, and you’ll be smooth as glass.

1)Yes
2)Water
3)It was just one trash bag
4)That’s ridiculous. Everyone knows Spider-Man is better.
5)The police can’t catch Batman. Come on now.
6)I only have an old towel I used to wipe down my car and an action figure of Kick-Ass in my trunk. If the police inhaled either, then they must’ve hit me hard.
7)The local mental institution lets you go in 8 hours anyway.
8)Auctioneers will take my GTO when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

If this doesn’t work, I’ll try it, but I don’t fully trust myself with a buffer on headlight plastic.

Meguiars plastix is a good polish and you can grab the drill buffer head kit from harbor freight that will do the trick. It’s no big deal honestly. If you can detail a car with a polisher, you do fine here.

Aww, come on. It’s not a real party if you don’t have a trunk full of bath salts and 200 glad trash bags tapped to the car!

I used a kit on my silver 6's headlights that I got from Harbor Freight for $10 on sale, usually $15. Was good for at least 2 cars (also did my neighbor’s gen-1 Yaris, and had some leftover media).
